Jadee Sumner plays Cinderella’s Mother, Granny, AND the Giant!

What’s challenging about show?
I would have to say the timing of all the lines. Since even most of the spoken word is “metered” and needs to be said in a certain time, you can’t sneeze or hiccup without throwing the whole timing off for you or your fellow actors on stage.

What’s going to surprise people ?
I think the strength of such a great cast. OC local talent is out of this world. And with that said, I can’t call out just one actor to come see…everyone is doing a fantastic job!

How is the character like you/different?
Well I play three different characters, and in some ways, all three characters are nurturing someone very dear to their hearts – Cinderella’s mother (who comes back as a spirit in the tree) is looking out for Cinderella, Granny is caring for Little Red and even the Giant is coming back to avenge her husband. Being a mother, I understand these women wanting to protect and care for their family. I think I’m most like Cinderella’s mother with a little of granny’s feistiness and Giants demanding at all cost thrown in.

When did you first perform?
In high school (ahem…in the late 70’s) I was in drama and cast in a few school plays. But didn’t do a musical until 2004 when we found Musical Theatre Village in Irvine and my daughter begged me to do a show with her. I was cast as an ensemble nun in Sound of Music. I’ve done about 30 more shows at MTV off and on and this is the first time trying a new theatre company and second time doing a show without a family member with me.

When not rehearsing, I’m playing tennis, talking long distances with my
daughter in New York City or son in San Luis Obispo or traveling with my
husband.

Jadee Sumner is excited to be involved in her first OTE production as
Cinderella's Mother, Granny and the lady Giant in this production of Into
the Woods. She finds the cast and crew are so talented and is learning a
lot about herself and Sondheim! Previous roles she has enjoyed playing
include Widow Corney in Oliver, Mrs. Mayor in Seussical, Sister Sophia in
Sound of Music and too many other ensemble roles to mention. Love to my
husband and children and remember "Opportunity isn't a lengthy visitor..."
