Megan Demarchi plays “Rapunzel” in OTE’s upcoming production of Into the Woods.
What’s challenging about bringing this script to life?
Rapunzel is a fairly two dimensional character with minimal stage time, so fleshing her out has been fun.
How is this production bringing something new to this story?
This production utilizes all local talent and really brings an Orange County flair to the story.
What’s going to surprise people about this show?
Act 2 😉
How is this character like you? Different?
Rapunzel and I are alike in that we are both very adventurous and curious about the world. I, however, do not have 30 foot long hair.
What do you love about this character?
I get to have fun with the comedy written for Rapunzel, which is not something I normally get to do!
What do you hate about this character?
I wish she would take initiative to change her own life instead of waiting around for a prince.
What’s the biggest challenge about taking on this role?
THE BREATH SUPPORT.
Besides yourself, what celebrity would you like to see tackle this character?
Laura Osnes. Always.
Without giving anything away, what’s your favorite line of dialogue?
“When first I appear, I seem deleterious.”
If you could play any other character in this show, who would it be?
When did you first perform?
I did the school plays in elementary school but the first time I did a real play was when I was in Dawn Doherty’s (our Baker’s Wife) middle school theatre class.
Besides this one, what’s your favorite stage show?
Light in the Piazza!!!
Who do you look up to (as an actor/director/etc.)?
Laura Osnes/Jennifer Damiano, Kelli O’Hara
What’s your perfect Sunday afternoon look like?
Sleeping in, brunch, errands, cuddling with the Steward ;P
When you have a five-minute break during rehearsal, what do you spend that time doing?
What do you do when you’re not doing theatre?
Work and school!
If you had a magic wand, what show would you do next?
The Light in the Piazza
What’s the last thing you do before you step out on stage?
Megan Demarchi is thrilled to play Rapunzel in her third show with OTE Productions. When she is not acting, she splits her time between attending school at Concordia University Irvine and fulfilling the actress-waiting-tables stereotype at Chili’s in Irvine. After she graduates she hopes to teach theatre at a high school level.
