Into the Woods, last 4 performances, this weekend March 4 – 6th.
Matt Acuna plays “The Steward” in OTE’s production of Into the Wood
What’s going to surprise people about this show?
People who haven’t seen the show will be surprised by the second half of the show. It’s no longer your traditional fairy tale!
What do you love about this character?
I love how the steward snaps at the end and kills off a character. He says “a servant is not just a dog to a prince” so he must be dissatisfied in his role: always doing what he is told or supposed to do. He finally breaks character and acts hastily to protect everyone else. In one way, he’s continuing to do his duty, but his independence also shows more.
Without giving anything away, what’s your favorite line of dialogue?
What’s challenging about bringing this script to life?
The steward is a very minor character without any development or focus. The challenge is to give him an immediate personality through movement and body language since his dialogue and character interaction.
If you could play any other character in this show, who would it be?
When did you first perform?
1995! Best Christmas Pageant Ever.
What’s your perfect Sunday afternoon look like?
Brunch and video games.
When you have a five-minute break during rehearsal, what do you spend that time doing?
Playing clash of clans
Matt Acuna gets to perform INSIDE the community center for this show after three years of doing Shakespeare in the Hills. He thanks Rory for the opportunity to do a new show and thanks the community center for a climate controlled stage. Matt hopes this role gets him one step closer to a Star Wars role since he wields a mighty staff. Which is basically a lightsaber, right?
