Character Breakdowns

Sound Doctors – Live foley artists for our show. Generally will not have any speaking capacity, in the traditional sense, but will communicate and be involved through visual gags and sound effects. As a Sound Doctor, you’ll be working primarily with the Sound Director, though you may get direction from the show Director as well.

Being a Sound Dr will involve the following:

– Setting up & breaking the live foley workstation (may require lifting and moving objects of up to 20-30 lbs)

– Managing sound props

– Performing live foley sound effects

– Playing sound cues from a laptop

– Any other sound tech duties as they arise

All while being goofy and awkward scientists in front of the audience (this is a live show, after all!)

Cast Roles

The cast will play/voice multiple characters for the performance. Below are the characters of the two radio plays performed during the course of the evening. Each actor will play at least one character in both stories.

ROBBIE ISAAC – Co-mastermind of the heist, posing as a tourist yokel, married to MARIA

MARIA ISAAC– Co-mastermind of the heist, posing as a tourist yokel, married to ROBBIE

DORIS – The tour guide trying patiently to separate fact from fiction, AND sell the public version of what happened in that Giant Robot fight

JAMESON – Doris’s robot sidekick that she uses to tell jokes; it secretly despises her and is helping plan the heist

MEKTALOS SUPERIOR – The Giant Robot that came to Earth, was defeated 18 years ago and has been seemingly dead ever since.

ADDITIONAL CHARACTERS- Brief appearances from assorted scientists, tourists, robots, and talking security devices.

PERLA LABAT-BENNINGFIELD – Whip-smart scientist driven by a need to prove herself. Capable of throwing her whole heart at solving a problem or completely dismantling you with sarcasm. Sister to Garland.

GARLAND LABAT – Cynical, hides behind a facade of carefree humor; has estranged himself from his family but can’t seem to forge lasting connections with anyone. Brother to Perla.

MARLIN LABAT (50’s/60’s) – Brilliant, eccentric, world-renowned, a scientist ranked among the great geniuses of the human race; with the side effect of being occasionally woolly about daily life and the present emotional needs of those around him. Father to Garland and Perla.

JOHN/JAN MALOOF (50’s) – Patient, capable attorney accustomed to executing the strange requests of his wealthiest client.

ALEX/ANNA (20’s) – John/Jan Maloof’s eager-to-please assistant
