We’re so excited to have Ashley returning this year to SHAKESPEARE IN THE HILLS! Last year she played “The Courtesan” in The Comedy of Errors. This year, Ashley plays “Mistress Ford” in The Merry Wives of Windsor opening Friday, July 19 at the Laguna Hills Community Center.

Our interview with Ashley about the production:

What’s challenging about bringing this script to life?

Definitely putting it in the 1990s time period. It’s an idea that does make so much sense for the content, and I think it will work well, but the execution in these beginning stages is a little elusive!

How is this production bringing something new to this story?

SHAKESPEARE IN THE HILLS will always add a fun and different take on the original content. This environment leads to more interaction with the audience, which I feel helps pull them into the story, sometimes quite literally!

What’s going to surprise people about this show?

How fun it can be to teach someone a lesson.

Call someone out by name: who must come see this production?

Brie Guerrci

How is this character like you? Different?

We’re both cunning, organized, and confide in our girlfriends, but she, unlike me, spends far more time with her girlfriends than her partner.

What do you love and/or hate about this character?

I love that she is so clearly loyal to her husband, despite his doubts. I also love that she is playful about teaching someone a lesson. I haven’t found anything not to like!

Besides yourself, what celebrity would you like to see tackle this character?

Emily Blunt

Without giving anything away, what’s your favorite line of dialogue?

“I will find you twenty lascivious turtles ere one chaste man.”

If you could play any other character in this show, who would it be?

Probably my counterpart, Mistress Page.

When did you first perform?

When I was 6 in a production of A Christmas Carol.

Besides this one, what’s your favorite stage show?

Pirates of Penzance

What’s your perfect Sunday afternoon look like?

Napping on the grass or in a pool on a float.

What do you do when you’re not doing theatre?

I teach yoga!

What’s the last thing you do before you step out on stage?

Take a deep breath and smile.

“O powerful Love, that in some respects makes a beast a man, in some other a man a beast.

This summer, join SHAKESPEARE IN THE HILLS for one of Shakespeare’s most hilarious comedies, The Merry Wives of Windsor.

Sir John Falstaff and his entourage are wearing out their welcome in Windsor. The city isn’t big enough for his antics and appetites, especially as he sets about improving his financial situation by wooing Mistress Page and Mistress Ford. Meanwhile, Mistress Page’s lovely daughter, Anne, is under romantic siege from several local admirers. Double-meanings, disguises and dirty laundry abound as the men try to get what they want, but it’s the women of Windsor who pull the strings in this story…

Originally set in Shakespeare’s native land and time, this comedy shares traditions with today’s well-loved sitcoms. With its dexterous mingling of verbal and physical humor, we’ve brought it into the era of 90’s television, bringing elements from the show “Friends” and many more!
