SHAKESPEARE IN THE HILLS‘ is delighted to work with Rhonda Goldstein for the first time in The Merry Wives of Windsor opening Friday, July 19 at the Laguna Hills Community Center.

As our incredibly creative director had the marvelous insight to perceive, this play lends itself to the genre of a 90’s sitcom. She, therefore, made excellent artistic choices to incorporate this idea into the life of our production, and is strongly encouraging our ensemble to work on building and enhancing this concept with her through a truly creative journey.

I find that the relationships between the characters are developing a depth of connection which will be especially relatable for modern audiences on many levels, most markedly in terms of friendships, in passionate pursuance of objects of love or desire, in the complicated relationships between husbands and wives; and how the many unique personalities within those relationships are nurtured and/or (shall we say) handled. The wildly funny mayhem is being so brilliantly brought to life through the remarkable endeavors of this dynamic director, ensemble, and production team! I am thrilled to be a part of it and excited for audiences to be a part of it too!

I adore most every word I am fortunate enough to utter as this wonderfully shrewd and playful character. One line that I especially love is:

“I warrant thee! If I do not act it, hiss me!”

She is a absolutely ready and raring to go to into some outrageous fun- along with her best friend- as they put into action a little plan they have devised…

Besides this one, my favorite stage show (performance) was the unbelievable challenge of playing the dual roles of the ghost of Ethel Rosenberg and the deeply religious Mormon mother, Hannah Pitt in Tony Kushner’s Angels in America-arguably the most important and spectacularly prolific play of the 20th century. In addition, there were three minor- but no less urgent- characters that went along with playing these roles- an ancient rabbi, the world’s oldest living Bolshevik, and a Park Avenue doctor. To have had the opportunity to have given voice to Kushner’s tormented characters and their imperative trials through the modern day terror/plague facing our society was like no other!

ACTOR’S BIO: Rhonda Goldstein “Mistress Margaret Page”

After moving to Orange County almost two years ago due to my husband’s job, I am so thankful and delighted to have met such superb people through the theatre community here. I have been fortunate to have worked with Camino Real Playhouse, Newport Theatre Arts Center, Cabrillo Playhouse, and Modjeska Playhouse. I am thrilled to be a part of OTE’s production of The Merry Wives of Windsor and to work with all of the extremely welcoming and and extraordinarily talented people involved! Thank you so much for the opportunity!

“O powerful Love, that in some respects makes a beast a man, in some other a man a beast.

This summer, join SHAKESPEARE IN THE HILLS for one of Shakespeare’s most hilarious comedies, The Merry Wives of Windsor.

Sir John Falstaff and his entourage are wearing out their welcome in Windsor. The city isn’t big enough for his antics and appetites, especially as he sets about improving his financial situation by wooing Mistress Page and Mistress Ford. Meanwhile, Mistress Page’s lovely daughter, Anne, is under romantic siege from several local admirers. Double-meanings, disguises and dirty laundry abound as the men try to get what they want, but it’s the women of Windsor who pull the strings in this story…

Originally set in Shakespeare’s native land and time, this comedy shares traditions with today’s well-loved sitcoms. With its dexterous mingling of verbal and physical humor, we’ve brought it into the era of 90’s television, bringing elements from the show “Friends” and many more!
