What sort of person is going to love this character?
I think a person who is not following the norm of society will enjoy my character. That’s one of the reasons I love Laurie is because he doesn’t want to follow what his grandfather wants of him, but instead wants to follow his artistic passions. And of course any person who read the original book by Louisa May Alcott will love him as he is a classic character who brings a different side to the story.
How is this character like you? Different?
Laurie and I are similar because of our passions and dreams. He wants to travel, and adventure and compose music and do other artistic things which I can relate to him with. We’re also similar because he is a sweet, honest, caring guy. We’re different probably in the sense that I am strong willed and a little feisty and wouldn’t let Jo boss me around as much as he does
Is it easier to play this character or be yourself on stage?
As always for me it’s easier to play a different character because it’s really an amazing emotional release to be able to step outside of yourself and be someone else for a few hours. Laurie has a little bit of my personality thrown in him, but overall it’s much easier to play another person on stage and escape in the character.
What do you hate about this character?
Probably that he doesn’t take a stand and that he has this puppy-dog mentality and ends up giving in to his grandfather’s wishes and giving up on Jo. Other than that though there is nothing to hate about Laurie… he’s Laurie!
Besides yourself, what celebrity would you like to see tackle this character?
Daniel Radcliffe! He has that look and personality when he performs, and besides he’s Daniel Radcliffe so I would see him perform as ANYTHING!
Without giving anything away, what’s your favorite line of dialogue?
“We’ll be five for all forever from now on” 🙂
Besides yourself, which actor in this production is going to blow people away?
EVERYONE. It’s such an honor and inspiration to work with these people every night. Everyone is so talented and charismatic and I think every actor has something unique and different to offer that will steal the show and blow everyone out of their seats.
If you could play any other character in this show, who would it be?
John Brooke. I love his duet with Meg, it’s such a beautiful song.
What makes a good scene partner?
Several things make a good scene partner! I think there needs to be communication and an awareness of what’s going on, and for each person to just let go and not care what people think and enjoy the moment! With that you can make that memorable connection.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
A performer. I can’t see myself doing anything else but being up on stage. It helps me share my story with the world and bring happiness to others which I think is an amazing thing to be able to do.
If someone was going to make your life into a movie, who would play you?
Again, Daniel Radcliffe haha
Besides this one, what’s your favorite stage show?
Little Shop of Horrors. It’s so much fun and the music is so catchy and the characters get addicting to watch and to play.
Who do you look up to as a director?
I haven’t worked with many directors yet still being a young guy, but Aurora Long is always motivating me and has the best carefree fun personality that is an amazing wonder to work with. My drama teacher at high school Mrs. Jecmen is also very inspiring. She doesn’t take any shenanigans from anyone and always pushes me to my hardest every day. Both of them are strong willed and wonderful people!
What’s your perfect sunday afternoon look like?
Sleep in, big breakfast, feet up, and some good movies or reading a good book in the park. Down time doing nothing is a wonderful gift!
What do you do when you’re not doing theatre?
Writing music in my bedroom or acting out monologues. It’s weird I know… Other than that I’m at SCHOOL! Being a senior in high school there is a lot on my plate from grades to college apps to choir to theatre to doing shows so there’s lots of running around nonstop!
If you had a magic wand, what show would you do next?
If I had a magic wand I could do ANYTHING, so I would go back and relive shows I’ve already done, I would keep reliving my favorite moments of this show, and I would be able to do as many shows at once as I want! So all at once I would be doing Pippin, Spamalot, Woman in Black, It’s a Wonderful Life, Kiss me Kate, Little Women (the play version) Seussical, YOU NAME IT! I GOT A MAGIC WAND! Also I would levitate things, be invisible and fly everywhere. OOH and read minds!
What’s the last thing you do before you step out on stage?
I say a little prayer to myself to guide the cast and myself to do the best we can and give an amazing performance, tell myself not to be nervous and to have fun, and do a bunch of jumping jacks to get my energy going. And of course there are lots of “break a legs!” going around from everyone.
