This Friday and Saturday, EARBUD THEATER: INVASION is brought to life on the stage at the upstairs Studio Theatre at the Long Beach Playhouse. In the style of traditional radio plays, audiences will witness the creation of science fiction radio drama in-person, including live foley effects and other sonic tricks.
“Earbud Theater is all about using audio storytelling to stimulate the imagination. The opportunity to tell strange and fantastic stories without being limited by a special effects budget is what draws us to it,” says Nicholas Thurkettle, a writer and performer for the radio play.
Featured at this unique live performance will be “Escape! (The End of Humanity Song)” about an estranged brother and sister who are reunited by a mysterious message from their father, a leading scientist who has disappeared. Also the world premiere of “The Mektalos Caper,” about a high-stakes heist that takes place inside the dead body of a 700-foot tall robot from outer space.
The cast is made up of professional voice-over performers working in film, on-stage, in popular video games such as World of Warcraft, and in live shows at Disneyland and the Aquarium of the Pacific.
