Meanwhile, Mistress Page’s lovely daughter, Anne, is under romantic siege from several local admirers. Double-meanings, disguises and dirty laundry abound as the men try to get what they want, but it’s the women of Windsor who pull the strings in this story…

Chris Hunter plays “Francis Ford” in SHAKESPEARE IN THE HILLS’ The Merry Wives of Windsor returning this Friday, August 2nd, for its closing weekend at the Laguna Hills Community Center.
What’s challenging about bringing this script to life?
Trying to bring Shakespeare’s dialogue into a 1990’s sitcom but I suppose it adds to the humor of it.
How is this production bringing something new to this story?
We are taking a sitcom spin on this show which brings a fresh flavor to Shakespeare. You will get to enjoy some familiar moments from shows you’ve grown up with.
What’s going to surprise people about this show? All the FRIENDS references we have snuck in. Try to keep count if you can!
Call someone out by name: who must come see this production?
My Fiancee Caitlin Schafer.
How is this character like you? Different?
My character is a schemer. He likes to plan and surprise which I can relate to but he does it out of jealousy and I do it out of fun
What do you love and/or hate about this character?
I hate how jealous he can be but I love playing up the crazy with him.
What’s the biggest challenge about taking on this role?
Getting into the mindset of crazed jealous lunatic.
Besides yourself, what celebrity would you like to see tackle this character?
This may be on the nose but: Matthew Perry.
Without giving anything away, what’s your favorite line of dialogue?
“Set down the basket, villains!”
If you could play any other character in this show, who would it be?
Probably Caius the French Doctor.
When did you first perform?
Way back in middle school on Catalina Island.
Besides this one, what’s your favorite stage show?
It’s so hard to choose! Maybe Phantom of the Opera.
What’s your perfect Sunday afternoon look like?
I’d be on a tropical beach with my fiancee with mango smoothies.
What do you do when you’re not doing theatre?
Honestly, I’m working when I’m not acting.
If you had a magic wand, what show would you do next?
A stage production of the Greatest Showman where I play P.T. Barnum.
What’s the last thing you do before you step out on stage?
I take a deep breath and let the character take over. His history, his memories and his thoughts direct my actions on stage.
Actor’s Bio: Chris Hunter, “Francis Ford”
Chris hasn’t been on stage for about 2 years and but is happy to be back. His past few shows have been with OTE and it is really an honor to work with people who love their art with such a passion. When he is not acting he is working for the Cities of Lake Forest and Laguna Hills in the parks and recreation/community Services department. He loves his work and he hopes to do it for a very long time. His interests include music, theater, any Disney owned franchise, gaming and of course, his wonderful amazing fiancee Caitlin.

Steven Teats plays “Falstaff” in SHAKESPEARE IN THE HILLS’ The Merry Wives of Windsor running July 19-August 3 at the Laguna Hills Community Center.
What’s challenging about bringing this script to life?
The real challenge in bringing anything to life is first finding a way to generate 1.21 gigawatts. Then channeling that energy into this lifeless conglomerate of static words, imagery, and metaphors into something that is alive, real, and relevant today. I use a lot of google and even more imagination in an attempt to make tangible what often seems ambiguous and surreal.
How is this character like you? Different?
Physically Falstaff is a very large man. In this production I will be wearing a padded suit to make my self look larger. Two years ago, I was the same size as this character looks now with the suit on. It is very important to me that I retain some of the physicality that I had back when I was that size. It was only a short time ago for me but the first time I put the suit on with the costume I remembered certain challenges that I had forgotten. For comedy’s sake, I will take advantage of my newfound physical mobility at select times. Even at my largest size I could do much of what I am doing now; however, it carried a much higher risk of injury back then. So I was always very careful with every move that I made. I don’t want my performance to be the impersonation of a fat man. I want all of his movements to be real and representational of the experience that I had.
What’s the biggest challenge about taking on this role?
Falstaff spends so much time trying to present a version of himself to everyone he interacts with. It can be difficult to find what he is truly feeling and thinking at times. He is very clear about his goals in the show. He wants money and liquor. But I think he uses those things to buy his way out of loneliness. As long as the alcohol is flowing and the money plentiful, he will have no shortage of men willing to keep his company.
Actor’s Bio: Steven Teats, “Falstaff”
Steven put on 120 lbs as research in preparation for this play; however, due to health concerns he lost the weight and decided to go with a fat suit. He is sure no one has noticed. This is the fourth show he has been apart of for Shakespeare in the Hills, “Toby” in 12th Night, and the Friar in Romeo and Juliet were two of his more notable parts. He also played “King Duncan” in Mac***h, Macccers, the play that must not be named, you know, the Scottish play, but that role was short lived. Thank you Rori, the Laguna Hills Community Center, Katie Kelly, Kaitlyn Smith, Kelli, Kenneth, Kenneth Culver, Taylor, Anthony, Ashley, Chris, Cole, Grace, Jim, Josh, Kristington, Lisa, Makenna, Marcia, Noah, Rhonda, Shelby, The Rembrandts, the guy who works at the community center that pulled all the strings for us to play here at the park, he is an awesome dude, Jennifer Aniston, Mathew Perry, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudro, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, and of course, Jesus, for making all of this possible.

Kristington Plotkin plays “Doctor Caius” in SHAKESPEARE IN THE HILLS’ The Merry Wives of Windsor running July 19 – August 3 at the Laguna Hills Community Center.
What’s challenging about bringing this script to life?
This script in particular has a lot of highly repetitive moments and phrases. I think that’s been the most challenging for the cast over the course of the production. I cannot count how many times I say “by gar” in this show – you just at some point have to assume I’m starting everything with “by gar.”
How is this production bringing something new to this story?
I definitely can’t think of another production that’s turning this ridiculous mayhem into a 90s sitcom. Also, we’ve decided Dr. Caius is a soap-opera import – a model/doctor.
What’s going to surprise people about this show?
How Falstaff is gonna fit in that dang buckbasket.
How is this character like you? Different?
Doctor Caius & I both probably have an over-inflated sense of self, and we both are a little out of place in our worlds. He’s super touchy-feely (at least with women), intimate, sort of chivalrous, and tries to be a total ladies’ man. I really don’t like being touched except by my close friends, I keep people at a distance, and without trying too hard people feel comfortable with me.
What do you love and/or hate about this character?
I adore how ridiculous he is. When I read the play, I knew Doctor Caius was going to be the most fun. Someone in a summary of the play spent about 5 minutes describing how Dr. Caius is this mad french doctor who gets into duels with people in a ten minute explanation of the whole play. He’s an attention stealer.
What’s the biggest challenge about taking on this role?
Caius is such a jump from who I am in a lot of ways. He’s a total clown in this, which is my favorite thing to play, but it requires a release of yourself to really explore that.
Besides yourself, what celebrity would you like to see tackle this character?
A lot of the inspiration came from Kevin Kline, so I guess him.
Without giving anything away, what’s your favorite line of dialogue?
M. Ford: art thou there, my deer? my male deer?
Fal. : My doe with the black scut! Let the sky rain potatoes;
If you could play any other character in this show, who would it be?
Maybe Mistress Quickly. It’s hard to say since Caius was my first choice. Quickly is fun to play because you can either make her totally knowledgeable about what’s going on and very sly, or you can make her an absolute ditz.
When did you first perform?
The first thing I remember performing in and can still sing a song from was a play about the 13 colonies. I was Sybil Luddington (too bad her name doesn’t rhyme like Revere). But there’s footage my mom found of me as one of the fires in the Temple play about the plagues of Egypt. I did not look like I was enjoying it.
Besides this one, what’s your favorite stage show?
My favorite stage show is the Great Comet of 1812 with Hadestown in a close second. There’s no show I’ve ever seen other than Great Comet that manages to cover so many senses, that whirlwinds the actors around you, create such a spectacle, puts you in the action, feeds you delicious piroshkis, and just does so many things to reinvigorate the medium of theater.
What’s your perfect Sunday afternoon look like?
All days blend into each other for me because I work almost every day. I guess a perfect Sunday is spent coming up with new project ideas or getting some serious work done on a project I’m already working on, drinking some tea, eating some artichokes, and seeing friends. I have my hands in too many cookie jars.
What do you do when you’re not doing theatre?
I teach science in camps & after school, I facilitate fun with corporate groups, I develop podcasts (current focus is Let the Old Wives Tell it – a breakdown and reintroduction to fairy tales and their histories), I body paint, I read a lot, and I’m also probably trying to pick up a new hobby as if I have time for another.
What’s the last thing you do before you step out on stage?
Try to remember what I’m doing out there.
Actor’s Bio: Kristington Plotkin, “Doctor Caius”
Kristington is a perpetual dabbler – probably the result of being told they could do anything from a young age. Their cinematography and playwriting careers started in high school, which paved the way for the need to act and direct. Since then, Kristington has produced several audio dramas, been artistic director for 3 theatre groups, and performed in various mediums over the past ten years. Currently, they’re working on getting their new podcasting production company off the ground, Onology Audio, with a current focus on Let the Old Wives Tell It – a show that’s half educational dive into the histories behind fairy tales, and half fully-produced audio with original first-person retellings of the stories in focus. They’re also a proud stakeholder of bS Theatre which performs minimally rehearsed Shakespeare in intimate settings like bars and cafes and finds time to body paint on the side. No one knows quite when Kristington finds time to eat or sleep, but it’s claimed it somehow happens.

Kaitlyn Smith plays “Mistress Quickly” in SHAKESPEARE IN THE HILLS’ The Merry Wives of Windsor opening this Friday, July 19 at the Laguna Hills Community Center.
What’s going to surprise people about this show?
I think people will be surprised by all of the Easter eggs we’ve included for fans of the show Friends, or even fans of the 90’s era in general. It’s definitely not a traditional take on Shakespeare, but that’s one of the best parts about it!
What do you love and/or hate about this character?
I love Mistress Quickly’s ability to take things as they are. She doesn’t worry about what may or may not happen and she doesn’t really care what other people think of her like I do; she trusts that things will work out and goes about her business the best way she sees fit. I admire her ability to be adaptable and to let things go. I am working on bringing those traits into my real life at the moment!
Without giving anything away, what’s your favorite line of dialogue?
“Divide me like a bribed buck, each a haunch. My horns I bequeath your husbands.”
If you could play any other character in this show, who would it be?
Mistress Ford or Page would definitely be fun, but also Falstaff if the company is feeling adventurous!
What do you do when you’re not doing theatre?
Mostly spending time with my family and friends!
If you had a magic wand, what show would you do next?
Noises Off! I believe I’ve said this every year, someone please do this show and cast me!
What’s the last thing you do before you step out on stage?
Take a breath to help support my energy for the upcoming scene.
Actor’s Bio: Kaitlyn Smith, “Mistress Quickly”
Kaitlyn Smith is excited to return to her fourth season of OTE’s SHAKEPEARE IN THE HILLS. She is a graduate of the University of California, Irvine with Honors in Acting. This summer, join SHAKESPEARE IN THE HILLS for one of Shakespeare’s most hilarious comedies, The Merry Wives of Windsor.
Sir John Falstaff and his entourage are wearing out their welcome in Windsor. The city isn’t big enough for his antics and appetites, especially as he sets about improving his financial situation by wooing Mistress Page and Mistress Ford. Meanwhile, Mistress Page’s lovely daughter, Anne, is under romantic siege from several local admirers. Double-meanings, disguises and dirty laundry abound as the men try to get what they want, but it’s the women of Windsor who pull the strings in this story…
Originally set in Shakespeare’s native land and time, this comedy shares traditions with today’s well-loved sitcoms. With its dexterous mingling of verbal and physical humor, we’ve brought it into the era of 90’s television, bringing elements from the show “Friends” and many more!

Josh Hardgrave plays “George Page” in SHAKESPEARE IN THE HILLS’ The Merry Wives of Windsor opening this Friday, July 19 at 7 p.m. at the Laguna Hills Community Center.
How is this character like you? Different?
I always tend to connect with the Ted Mosbys and Rosses of the sitcom world. Not sure what that says about me, but it makes it easier to find my character here. Slightly uptight, opinionated, but also down for whatever you guys want to do. Also we apparently both like our food and drink.
What do you love and/or hate about this character?
He’s very easy going and is cool with anything as long as there’s the promise of amusement by the end of it. He could probably be a bit less of a snob about money, though, but, y’know… class struggles, man.
What’s the biggest challenge about taking on this role?
Getting into the rhythm of learning lines and making them my own, but filtered through an iconic character. Finding the little ways where I can bring a bit of 90’s humor into old phrasing is at once incredibly funny and difficult.
Besides yourself, what celebrity would you like to see tackle this character?
Bruce Campbell. But that’s my answer to everything.
Without giving anything away, what’s your favorite line of dialogue?
“Let the sky rain potatoes!” Sounds like heaven, to me.
If you could play any other character in this show, who would it be?
“Falstaff” just seems like a ton (literally AND figuratively) to play around with. Also, I’m a huge fan of “Pistol’s” barbs and one-liners.
When did you first perform?
I started doing drama and musicals through middle school and high school, then moved on to pursue other interests. This will be the first production that won’t be an attempt to bring up my GPA!
Besides this one, what’s your favorite stage show?
I’m a musical guy. so it’s really tough to spurn a good run of Phantom, but the most entertaining show I’ve also become quite obsessed with Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812. The music is just so clever and the way it is staged in and around the audience really draws you in.
What’s your perfect Sunday afternoon look like?
Slightly overcast, a well-made martini (gin. stirred, cocktail onions and a tomolive), and an episode of “the Great British Baking Show.”
If you had a magic wand, what show would you do next?
Definitely a musical. I suppose I’ll just have to keep bugging Rori to direct Secret Garden.
What’s the last thing you do before you step out on stage?
Forget my lines, probably.
Actor’s Bio: Josh Hardgrave, “George Page”
Josh has been an Orange County local his entire life, and has enjoyed supporting Rori and OTE from the audience for years. Merry Wives of Windsor will be his first chance to be on the other side of the curtain, and he couldn’t be more excited! He is no stranger to the stage, however, and you can find him most Sundays playing bass at Grace Lutheran Church in Huntington Beach. Or, if the stars align, you may catch him crooning Roy Orbison and Johnny Cash at a local bar with his cover band “Close Enuff”. He is eternally grateful to his friends, new and old, in the cast for their support, to Rori for encouraging him to finally open up, and as always to God for opportunities to explore. “I hope you all enjoy the show as much as I have enjoyed bringing it to you!”

Lisa Noce plays “Robin” in SHAKESPEARE IN THE HILLS’ The Merry Wives of Windsor, opening this Friday, July 19 at 7 p.m. at the Laguna Hills Community Center.
What’s challenging about bringing this script to life?
Meshing Shakespeare with a more modern sit-com, Friends, is brilliant and fun but it does mess with your head a bit when you are saying “I’ll be sworn” in a New York accent.
How is this production bringing something new to this story?
I think it will be fun for the audience to see a lighter side with recognizable characters, but still hear Shakespeare’s words.
How is this character like you? Different?
I am playing Robin Slender with a “Janice-esque” leaning. I would like to think I am like Robin/Janice in that I go about my day with confidence and don’t really care what other people think of me. Her fashion sense is about my polar opposite.
What do you love and/or hate about this character?
What is not to love, She is just unapologetically herself.
What’s the biggest challenge about taking on this role?
I would like Robin/Janice to be likeable and not so obnoxious the audience cringes when she enters. It’s a fine line.
Without giving anything away, what’s your favorite line of dialogue?
Ay, forsooth
When did you first perform?
The first time I remember performing was in the Stars of Tomorrow competition when I was about 10. My sister’s and I performed Abba’s “If You Change Your Mind” and I can still remember some of the choreography. Seared in my brain might be a good description.
What do you do when you’re not doing theatre?
I hang out with my family, walk my dog, read. I love to travel but don’t do it enough.
What’s the last thing you do before you step out on stage?
Breathe out
Actor’s Bio: Lisa Noce, “Robin”
Lisa Noce has been performing locally for the past 10 years. Some of her recent favorite roles have included: “Grandma” in Addams Family, “Mrs. Mushnik” in Little Shop of Horrors and “Aunt Eller” in Oklahoma. Performing Shakespeare has long been on her bucket list so she is extremely appreciative of Aurora for providing this opportunity. In her daily life she works as an engineer so performing (hopefully) helps keep both sides of her brain happy.
