INTO THE WOODS, laguna hills, laguna hills community center, Musical Theatre, nunsense, special offer
Roger Sloan plays the “Narrator” and the “Mysterious Man” in On the Edge Theatre Production’s INTO THE WOODS, opening Friday, February 26.
What sort of person is going to love this character?
People that love to “tell the tale” from the outside. There always has to be someone on the outside…
What’s the biggest challenge about taking on this role?
The costume changes….and learning to talk in a Sondheim musical, where you still have music cues for all your lines.
Besides yourself, what celebrity would you like to see tackle this character?
Sean Connery as narrator and Mysterious Man would be great! Or maybe Sir Ian McKellen….oooh…ooh….Sir Patrick Stewart.
Without giving anything away, what’s your favorite line of dialogue?
“It’s no sicker than your thing with dwarves.”
Besides yourself, which actor in this production is going to blow people away?
That’s the good part, the ENTIRE cast is going to blow people away!!
When did you first perform?
I performed all through grade school, high school and college then took a 30 year break. I started again in 2012 performing in Annie at MTV in Irvine after my daughter, Valerie, got the role of “Annie.”
When you have a five-minute break during rehearsal, what do you spend that time doing? Usually it’s bio related if you know what I mean.
Who’s the funniest person in the cast in real life?
Matt Acuna, “The Steward”, is pretty funny, I have to admit.
What do you do when you’re not doing theatre?
I had to think that one through for a moment. It seems I’m always doing theatre. My family comes first though.
If you had a magic wand, what show would you do next?
I would still like a 3rd shot to perform Nunsense A-Men in a large theatre.. But hopefully my next show will be Peter Pan playing “Captain Hook.”
What’s the last thing you do before you step out on stage?
Check my zipper and pop a breath mint and PRAY I remember my lines.
Roger Sloan is extremely excited to play the role of “Narrator/Mysterious Man” for Into the Woods. Roger’s first OTE production was in 2015 as “Mother Superior” in Nunsense A-Men. Roger most recently appeared as “Fagin” in Oliver! His other acting credits include Music Man (Harold Hill), Jesus Christ Superstar (Caiaphas), Peter Pan (Captain Hook), Bye Bye Birdie (Harry MacAfee) as well as in other shows such as Fiddler, Joseph, and Play On! He would like to thank On the Edge Theatre Productions, including Aurora Culver and her team for the opportunity to perform this role as well as the Laguna Hills Community Center for supporting live theatre. He’d also like to thank his wife Melissa, as always, for her ongoing support. Here we go….Once Upon a Time…..
